We’ve always been goals orientated at TwoPointZero, which is why we’re thrilled to announced our new partnership with the AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA) to help assist AFL and AFLW players find careers after footy.

As part of this partnership, TwoPointZero will work in collaboration with AFLPA to host the first AFLPA Outduction Camp in mid-November for the 100 plus players that will be retiring after this season.

The camp will provide these players with the opportunity to harness their sporting experience and identify future career paths. Working closely with our career coaches our goal is to help recent retirees identify or build on their post-football career passions and provide them with the tools and insights they need to pursue a fulfilling professional life.

We’ll also be offering the services of our career coaches to past players, who can choose to engage with TwoPointZero at any point during their retirement to identify and hone-in on employment opportunities.

Playing the long game

Research conducted by the AFL Players’ Association suggests that more than a third (37%) of AFL players report some difficulty with their transition into retirement – mainly due to the loss of football routine and structure, difficulty securing post-football employment and general uncertainty in “what to do next”.

AFLPA General Manager of Player Development Brett Johnson says the partnership will provide retirees with a springboard towards their next career complementing the services already available to them.

“Each AFL player has had a different journey – some have been drafted out of school and some are recruited at a mature age. AFL careers average five and a half years but some players play for more than 15 years and some may find themselves out of the system after one or two seasons,” he said.

“This partnership will give our members great exposure to not only career experts but also potential employers.”

This fantastic initiative by AFLPA addresses a key issue faced by AFL players and one that we at TwoPointZero are proud to be part of as their official career services provider.

Our partnership will not only assist players make an effective transition into the next stage of their life, but also demonstrate to young football fans the importance of career coaching and ongoing work towards life goals.
